Presentation Title:

Influence of health promotion via Instagram on knowledge and attitudes of adolescents about reproductive health at SMK Negeri 2 Kupang

Abstract

Limited understanding of reproductive health among adolescents can lead to poor decision-making when dealing with the physical and psychosocial changes that occur during this developmental stage. Utilizing Instagram as a platform for health promotion has become a promising alternative, as it aligns closely with teenagers’ daily routines and delivers information in an engaging manner. This study is centered on examining the impact of health promotion through Instagram on students’ knowledge and attitudes regarding reproductive health at SMK Negeri 2 Kupang. The research employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. A total of 87 students were selected using stratified random sampling. Questionnaires were administered both before and after the health promotion intervention conducted via an Instagram account. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon statistical test. The results revealed an increase in the average knowledge score from 13.44 to 18.51, and the attitude score from 28.61 to 35.26 after the intervention. The statistical analysis produced a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect. These findings suggest that Instagram can serve as an effective medium for enhancing adolescents’ understanding and shaping positive attitudes toward reproductive health. It is recommended that schools take advantage of social media as an appealing and accessible educational tool for students.
