Presentation Title:

Refinement of sperm vertical velocity measurement and its predictive association with fertility potential

Abstract

Accurate assessment of sperm motility is considered essential for evaluating male fertility, yet horizontal measurements are often viewed as insufficient for characterizing true kinetic ability. In this research, refinements to the sperm vertical velocity analyser are presented to enable more precise quantification of vertical movement. Enhanced optical detection and a redesigned analysis chamber have been incorporated with upgraded software. Human and animal sperm samples obtained under approved ethical guidelines were examined, and vertical velocity was compared for standard motility indices and fertility-related parameters. A strong positive association was observed between vertical velocity and fertility potential related parameters. Sperm populations exhibiting higher vertical velocity were consistently found to demonstrate superior functional competence. Through these upgrades, a more reliable platform for motility assessment has been established, and the value of vertical velocity as a predictive indicator of sperm health and fertility potential has been reinforced.
