Evaluation of genotoxicity in infertile patients- A pilot study
Abstract
A cross-sectional study design was adopted involving infertile patients attending a reproductive health clinic. Peripheral blood lymphocytes were analyzed for micronuclei frequency (as a marker of chromosomal damage) and DNA strand breaks were quantified using the comet assay (parameters: tail length, tail DNA%, and tail moment). Attributable risk fraction was calculated using the prevalence of genotoxicity among exposed and unexposed groups. Statistical analyses included logistic regression to assess the association between infertility type and genotoxicity, adjusting for potential confounders (age, smoking status, occupational exposure, and BMI).
Results: Preliminary findings indicated a higher mean micronuclei count and elevated comet assay parameters among patients with primary infertility compared to those with secondary infertility.
