Abstract
Introduction: Uterine rupture is a rare, preventable catastrophic condition in obstetrics, associated with high fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality. Its timely diagnosis and swift management may result in better outcomes.
Methods: Here, we study the presentations, management outcomes and complications of five different cases of ruptured uterus in pregnancy presented in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, GMCH Nagpur between the 1st of March 2023 and the 31st of June 2024 in the 28, 27, 23, 29 and 32 weeks, respectively.
Results: Four out of five patients had a history of scarred uterus and fifth one being a very rare case of silent spontaneous uterine rupture in a primi gravida and were diagnosed with clinical suspicion of rupture. Two out of five patients required urinary bladder repair with obstetric hysterectomy, while rest three managed with uterine repair. Four of them were successfully managed and discharged well. Our case series findings suggest that the clinical presentations of ruptured uterus vary.
Conclusion: Rupture of the uterus is an uncommon and often catastrophic condition, associated with high fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality. It is a preventable condition and timely diagnosis and swift management may result in better outcomes.
