Complex alternative (phytoestrogens + hyaluronic acid) therapy of genitourinary syndrome of menopause

Abstract

Genitourinary syndrome (GUMS) is a severe estrogen deficiency disorder in women during perimenopause and menopause. The main symptoms of GUMS and VVA include dryness, itching, vaginal biocenosis disturbances, dyspareunia, and dysuria, which significantly impair quality of life. The first stage of the study assessed the efficacy, safety, and acceptability of non-hormonal therapy for GUMS and VVA—a complex of phytoestrogens and hyaluronic acid, Estrogial cream. The therapeutic effect and safety of Estrogial cream for the topical treatment of GUMS and VVA as an alternative therapy have been proven (2021).

The next stage of the study (2025) compared two GUMS treatment regimens using ESTRAGIAL cream and daily topical care with and without a cleansing gel containing the same ingredients. The therapy resulted in acidification of vaginal discharge pH, an increase in lactobacilli, a decrease in opportunistic flora, and an increase in the vaginal health index. The FSFI improved by 2.02 times in the treatment group and by 1.3 times in the control group. The FSDS - by 2.1 times in the treatment group and by 2.07 times in the control group.
