Comprehensive approach of adolescent health
Abstract
Global investment in adolescent health is crucial. Adolescents aged 10-19 years constitute around one sixth of the world. Adolescence is a time of rapid transition and complex experiences with society, defining the capacity of a person to reach adult life .The present study was carried out in selected schools of Pathanamthitta district in five Teshil from both urban and rural areas were screened, in central Kerala, South India to assess comprehensive approach among school going adolescent girls aged 10-18 years over 869 samples .Prevalence of menstrual disorders and status of menstrual hygiene, public health services availed in the type of schools, exploring the dietary habits and anaemia prevalence among school going adolescent girls. The study was cross sectional and implemented in government and government aided schools. The mean age of onset of menarche was 12.28 (SD±1.03) years. Irregular menstrual disorder was observed in 34%(n= 228) of the studied subjects. it was revealed that 86.8% of adolescents were provided with iron tablets, 91.7% de-worming completed. Altogether, penurious diet patterns were observed, 64.6% were habituated to skip one meal in a day, 86.7% consumed junk food, 35.5% adolescents skipping breakfast, consumption of Green leafy vegetables was diminished. Conclusion- The results of this study indicate that comprehensive adolescent health assessment. Further research is necessary to gain a clearer understanding of the mechanisms that drive the effects of the comprehensive approach. The diverse strategies employed by comprehensive programs make it challenging to compare results directly. Looking to the future, the lasting impact of many adolescent programs cannot be effectively demonstrated due to inadequate evaluation designs. It is essential to identify key implementation factors that can aid in scaling up effective models.

Lucy George is an Associate Professor, working in Manav Rachna international university, Delhi NCR. Who has completed her MPhil and PhD and is currently pursuing an MPH. With 21 years of experience in various fields, she has worked as a clinical nutritionist, public health nutrition officer, and academic. She has contributed to several projects and numerous outreach programs in India and abroad. Additionally, she serves as a reviewer for journals and is a national member of the Adolescent Health Committee at the Indian Public Health Association (IPHA). Dr. George is also a lifetime member of 11 professional associations and has many publications to her name, including contributing to book chapters
