Dilip Kumar Dutta, MD, FRCOG, PhD, FICOG, is a distinguished obstetrician and gynecologist from India with over four decades of experience in clinical practice, research, and medical education. He serves as the Founder and Director of the Gynecological Institute of Clinical Excellence (GICE Hospital) in Kalyani, West Bengal, and is widely recognized for his contributions to women’s health and safe motherhood. A graduate of Guwahati University with an MD in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Dutta holds several prestigious fellowships including FRCOG (UK) and FICOG (India). Throughout his career, he has held several leadership positions such as Past Chairman of the Indian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (ICOG), FOGSI representative to the South Asian Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (SAFOG), and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Indian Academy of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (JIAOG). He has also served as President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Bengal Branch (2024–2025). A passionate academician and innovator, he has introduced surgical advancements such as Dutta’s Technique for managing placenta previa during cesarean section and the prior ligation of the uterine artery before abdominal hysterectomy. He has authored and contributed to numerous medical books and published over a hundred research papers in national and international journals. His dedication to improving maternal health, promoting evidence-based obstetric care, and training future medical professionals has earned him multiple honors, including several Lifetime Achievement and FOGSI awards. His work continues to inspire excellence and innovation in the field of obstetrics and gynecology across India and beyond
